This week we had our last guidance lesson about Pumsy. We got to play Jeopardy. It was really fun! We started to learn about the Solar System in Science. We completed an activity to order the planets starting closet to the sun. We learned an acronym to remember the order...My (Mercury) Very (Venus) Excellent (Earth) Mother (Mars) Just (Jupiter) Served (Saturn) Us (Uranus) Nachos (Neptune). We also started to learn about each planet. So far, we learned about the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Earth. In Writing, we are working on our final drafts of our chapter books. They are starting to look awesome and we can't wait to share them with you. When they are finished we will have a breakfast to share them. We learned about fractions on a number line in Math. In Reading, we continued to practice making inferences. We are almost finished with "A Dog's Life". It is so good that we don't want it to end! We learned 5 more cursive letters. We also did a little spring cleaning in our classroom. We can't wait till the weather actually feels like spring!

This week was outstanding! In Math we continued our Fraction Unit. This week we learned about fractions and sets. We did two fun activities, one using our name and one using M+M's. Each activity practiced finding fractions of a set. The best part was eating the M+M's when we finished! We have our first group of "Mad Minute Stars" who have colored each scoop of their Mad Minute cones up to 10. They will get to have lunch and ice cream with Miss Saburro. The rest of us are working hard to get up to our 10's. In Reading we began to learn about making inferences. We began the unit by looking at a picture of the inside of a house and had to use clues in the picture to make inferences about the family who lived there. We had to back up our inferences with reasons. In Writing we finished our chapters for our Informational pieces. We conferenced with Miss Saburro and are going to begin revising and editing next week. In Social Studies we made maps of China. We used yarn to show the rivers, glitter for the desserts, fettuccine for the Great Wall and chocolate chips for the mountain ranges. Our maps came out awesome! We also got to watch "Big Bird in China". It taught us more about China living and showed us the geography of China. We can't wait to learn more fun stuff next week in Miss Saburro's class!

This week in Math we continued learning division strategies. We learned how to divide a number into equal groups and use repeated subtraction to find the quotient. In Reading we focused on reading informational texts and articles to learn more about the characteristics of informational non-fiction. In Writing we continued our informational unit. We organized our ideas into the chapters we chose for our book. We also began writing one of our chapters. In Social Studies we finished up researching our Australian animals. We took all of our notes and organized them into sections about our animals, which included, description, habitat, diet, and other fun facts. Miss Hunter visited our class again this week and read us another chapter of "Pumsy". We reviewed "clear minds" and "mud minds" and learned all about "I messages". "I messages" tell someone how you are feeling in a certain situation. Today we got to watch the 4th grade choir and 5th grade band perform their concert. It was a lot of fun!
