the more that you'll learn, the more places you'll go."

This week was a blast! In Math we finished up our Measurement Unit. We learned about capacity, mass, and weight. We have our last Math test of the year on Monday. Our read aloud is still "The One and Only Ivan". It is very exciting and we love it! In Science we are learning all about Electricity. We learned about different circuits and practiced making them. We also learned how to make wiring diagrams just like Electricians! We had an awesome field trip to General Electric yesterday! We got to meet and work with Engineers to make our very own wind turbines! We tested them out using a fan. We also got to see a piece to a real wind turbine. It was huge!!!We really enjoyed our visit and learned a lot. Today in Music we are having our last sharing day. We can't wait! It was a really good week and we can't wait for next week!

This week in Math we began our Measurement Unit. We learned the customary and metric units of capacity. We had fun making "Measurement Monsters" to help us understand how many cups are in a pint, how many pints are in a quart and how many quarts are in a gallon. We started our Electricity Unit in Science. We completed a KWL and used a battery and copper wire to try to get a light bulb to light. We learned that you need to have a closed circuit in order for the bulb to light. It was really fun experimenting! We have been continuing working on our Persuasive writing pieces and practicing cursive. We are getting excited for our field trip next week to G.E.! We are also looking forward to some fun events in June!

This week was phenomenal! In Math, we finished our geometry unit and took our unit test today. We learned all about polygons, quadrilaterals and angles (obtuse, acute, right). In Social Studies we each picked a country we were interested in and wanted to learn more about. We completed a research packet and introduction for our travel brochures that we will be making. Research and information about the project will be coming home next week. We are so excited for the Cultural Fair in June! Yay! We finished lowercase cursive letters and are learning the uppercase letters now. We also continued working on persuasive speeches. We started a new read aloud called "The One and Only Ivan". We really like it so far! We look forward to Memorial Day weekend and three days off. Adios for now!

We can't believe it is May already! The year is going by so quick! We had a busy week due to the Math State Tests. We worked hard on the tests Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. They took up the majority of our mornings, so Miss Saburro gave us some treats and free time afterwards. We didn't think it was too hard! We started to present our Solar System projects. A lot of people made games, so we enjoyed learning and playing the games this week. We played Mars Jeopardy, Uranusopoly, Neptune Trivia, and Race Through Space. There will be more presentations next week. We are really enjoying sharing our projects! They are on display in the hallway near our classroom if you want to come look at them.

This week in Math we finished our fraction unit and began our time unit. We practiced telling time to the hour, half hour and minute and learned how to tell time to the quarter hour. Since our state test is coming up next week, we have also been reviewing past units. We worked on some practice tests so we would be comfortable with the format. We had another awesome science presentation about Solar Power. We went to 4 different stations that taught us how to use solar energy to do different things, like make light from a flashlight move solar powered toys. It was a lot of fun! In Reading we finished "Everything for a Dog". We thought some parts were sad, but it had a very happy ending. We were very surprised how the story turned out. We loved it! We did a lot of journal writing this week. We wrote about our spring vacations and shared our stories with the class. We will be beginning our persuasive unit next week. We had a Junior Achievement lesson this week, taught by Mrs. Higgs. It was our third one. We learned about the different ways to pay for things and we played a fun game to practice using money. We are happy the weather is starting to feel like spring! We have been enjoying the sunshine at recess.

This week we had our last guidance lesson about Pumsy. We got to play Jeopardy. It was really fun! We started to learn about the Solar System in Science. We completed an activity to order the planets starting closet to the sun. We learned an acronym to remember the order...My (Mercury) Very (Venus) Excellent (Earth) Mother (Mars) Just (Jupiter) Served (Saturn) Us (Uranus) Nachos (Neptune). We also started to learn about each planet. So far, we learned about the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Earth. In Writing, we are working on our final drafts of our chapter books. They are starting to look awesome and we can't wait to share them with you. When they are finished we will have a breakfast to share them. We learned about fractions on a number line in Math. In Reading, we continued to practice making inferences. We are almost finished with "A Dog's Life". It is so good that we don't want it to end! We learned 5 more cursive letters. We also did a little spring cleaning in our classroom. We can't wait till the weather actually feels like spring!
